Agora of Athens

The Basics

The Agora of Athens is considered the best preserved example of an ancient Greek agora in the world. Visit with a guide for expert insight into these ruins, which can be hard to interpret on one’s own. For independent travelers, the hop-on-hop-off bus and downloadable audio guide of the archaeological site provides both transportation and extra information.

Join a private or small-group walking tour that includes skip-the-line tickets—a must for these popular and crowded ruins—as well as a visit to the Agora Museum. Or, opt for a tour that pairs a visit to the Agora with the Acropolis. Look for a family-focused tour if visiting with kids; some guides specialize in making the site come to life for younger travelers.

Nice to hear the why instead of how things are built.
This was a fun tour that focused on the reasons the buildings were built instead of the how, which was great! It was cool to listen to the stories of the God's and how they are tied into each place! My sister had sprained her ankle and the guide took plenty of breaks and kept a slower pace, so we were able to participate.

A perfect way to start your vacation in Athens

Athens Scenic Bike Tour
The bikes were in very good condition. The helmets were cleaned before they were given to us. Our guide (Andreas) was great. Really enthusiastic and caring about everyone in the group. The best thing to do as soon as you arrive in the city so you can familiarize yourself with the surroundings and be able to plan the rest of your stay.

If you're a mythological fan this tour is for you, it was fantastic! Easy pace, loved the head sets -- which allowed social distancing. Very interesting to hear the actual history and mythology behind locations. The tour guide was fantastic! Very personable and entertaining.

Athens Highlights: a Mythological Tour
Fantastic tour! I’m so glad we booked this one vs the others! Very interesting to hear the actual history and mythology behind locations. The tour guide was fantastic! Very personable and entertaining. Also I would consider this more covid friendly than the other tours we saw along our trip. Allowed you to socially distance and go at your own pace. Also included earphones for all individuals so you could still hear the tour guide while socially distancing.

Electric Bike Tour of Athens by Night
Guide and tour both wonderful. Guide spoke flawless English and was very caring and concerned for our safety. Covered much more territory in 3 hours than I could have done in.a week on my own.

Half Day Athens Private Tailor-Made City Tour (Skip the line of Acropolis)
Would recommend this tour. Our Guide and driver were very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. Transport was of excellent quality clean spacious and air conditioned. We had three teenagers and my only suggestion is that the guide try to engage a little more with children and try to spark interest ( not easy I know especially with teenagers,)

Private Christian Tour in Athens & Ancient Corinth on Apostle Paul's Footsteps
Experiencing Paul’s footsteps. I would suggest to anyone else to book an escorted tour. Our driver was fabulous and did his job very well, but we would have enjoyed narration by a guide.

Acropolis of Athens, Ancient Agora and the Agora Museum Tour
Sissy was our guide and she was exceptional. She brought to life the story of the Acropolis and what it was like in the days when it was being built. This tour gives you plenty of time to do the photography necessary to capture the beauty of this amazing place.

The History of the Agora of Athens

The Agora of Athens, where Socrates once expounded his philosophy, dates back to the 6th century BC. This vast area lies to the northwest of the Acropolis and once featured an elaborate drainage system, a series of fountains, and a temple devoted to the Olympian Gods. The Agora was finally abandoned after a Slavic invasion in the 6th century.
