The Basics

There are a variety of ways to see Hollywood, from open-air bus to trolley and bike tours. Most of the sights line up neatly along a 1-mile (1.6-kilometer) stretch of Hollywood Boulevard between La Brea Avenue and Vine Street.

Gaze upon many celebrity homes—from the exterior only—on sightseeing tours of the area, particularly in Beverly Hills and the Hollywood Hills; or, combine a city tour with a visit to nearby theme parks including Universal Studios Hollywood or Disneyland® Resort. Full-day tours to Hollywood run from Los Angeles, Anaheim, and even Las Vegas.

Official Hollywood Sign Hike: Walk to the Hollywood Sign
We had a great time. You really do walk to the top of the Hollywood sign. Prepare yourself. George was an excellent tour guide, he shared lots of stories on the history of LA & Hollywood. He even recommended places to eat or visit while in town. 2 thumbs up!

Hollywood Bike Tour
JP was awesome! He was super knowledgeable and funny. He made the ride very entertaining. It was a great way to see Hollywood while being active. Traffic is tough here so ditching the car is ideal. We are from Philadelphia and visiting west coast with the kids for the first time. Our kids are 13 and 11. They loved it too. Yep Thanks!

Hollywood Bike Tour
What a great way to see Hollywood! Kris made the tour fun & interesting. I was traveling alone and wanted to see a few sights. The bike tour was perfect to gain a bit of history and trivia about Hollywood, and save a trip to the hotel fitness room. A lunch break at LA Brea would have rated this tour an "11". I highly recommend this tour (with an electric bike). Thanks to Kris for a fun morning.

Griffith Observatory Hike: Hollywood Hills Walk in Griffith Park
Matt was the perfect hike guide. He gave us plenty of historical information about Los Angeles and also good "gee wiz" facts about the city and surrounding areas. Perfect pace, considering it is a strenuous hike, with frequent breaks and even gave us bottled water and served as a photographer :-). You won't be disappointed.

Things to Know Before You Go

  • Driving is the main way to get around Los Angeles, but traffic jams are common and time-consuming; plan accordingly.

  • It’s often sunny in LA, so bring sunglasses or other sun protection. Tote a light layer too, as temperatures can drop as the sun sets.

  • Private tours often include round-trip transportation from area hotels.

  • Hollywood is wheelchair accessible, as are many of the neighborhood's attractions.

How to Get There

If you’re relying on public transportation to get around LA, central Hollywood is a convenient base. The Metro Red Line whisks you to Los Feliz, downtown, and Universal Studios in minutes, while buses provide easy links east along Hollywood Boulevard. When to Get There

Los Angeles is famous for its nearly year-round sunshine but receives the most visitors in summer. Visit in the shoulder seasons for a quieter experience, but keep in mind that this neighborhood draws crowds the entire year.

Must-See Sights Around Hollywood

One of the can’t-miss attractions along Hollywood Boulevard, the Hollywood Museum is something of a temple to the stars, crammed with posters, costumes, and rotating props from classic films. Other museums worth a look include Ripley’s Believe Or Not!, the Guinness World Records Museum, and the Hollywood Wax Museum, while the Hollywood Bowl, Hollywood Roosevelt, and the Dolby Theatre are other highlights. At the famous intersection of Hollywood and Vine, you can see the Capitol Records Tower and the legendary Hollywood Sign.
