In the last little southeastern corner of Germany, surrounded by an amphitheater of majestic mountains, is the King’s Lake, or Königsee. It sits at the heart of the Berchtesgaden Nationalpark, Germany’s only alpine national park and a recognized UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The 192 meters deep lake is therefore only navidated by electrical boats that have operated here for more than 100 years, thanks to Prince-Regent Luitpold of Bavaria, who was afraid the noise would scare away the deer he so liked to hunt here in the 19th century. We should forget that the almost vertical walls of the mountains here cause an echo that can be heard for over 7 times. Let’s embark on a pure romantic journey over the Kings lake, to see the St. Bartholomä peninsula just behind the east wall of the Watzmann mountain and where the kings had their hunting lodge, to see the Röthbach waterfall the highest of it kind of Germany with it’s over 400 meters of height, and then to the Cul-de-sac border of Austria.

This city has earned the righteous nickname of "pearl on the Inn", for it’s picture perfect scenery, with its colourful gothic houses, medieval inner courtyards, and it’s almost mediterranean flair. Once a powerhouse of trade in the Danube-Inn routes and in the Salt Route of Bavaria, it was fought over by the Bavarian nobility to obtain it’s control, since the only bridge over the Inn river passed on Wasserburg. The name itself means “Castle on the water”, and it was once the main harbour of Munich, only 50 km away. Built in a peninsula with winding curves along the Inn, it’s beauty is as uncanny today as ever.

Right out of the imaginary of the typical bavarian town, Rosenheim has it all. Near to lake Chiemsee, where king Ludwig II built his version of Versailles, known as Herrenchiemsee, it is also the scenery for the german TV series “Die Rosenheim Cops”. Once one of the most important satellite cities around Munich, it’s salines powered the region with the richnesses of the “white gold”. The Romans came here in 15 BC under the rule of Tiberius, founding the city and creating roads going east to west and north to south that all passed the city. The city lies also at the banks of the river Inn, another great water highway of the past. The name of this city is also shrouded in mystery. Supposedly, the Inn boatmen knew there were many beauties in this town, therefore calling it "home of the Rose", or Rosenheim. The Bavarian beauties still populate the area, in the landscape, buildings and it’s multicultural inhabitants that are proud to say that Rosenheim has a mediterranean flair.

At the top of a rocky formation besides the river Salzach lies the castle of Burghausen. Nestled upon a town on the border to Austria, it has long been the longest castle of the world, having witnessed over one thousand years of history. The form it takes today dates back to the Turkish siege, and allows for breathtaking panoramic views over the town, the Salzach, and both Austria and Bavaria. Here you will be transported to a time of dames and knights, within the thick walls of this Gothic fortress, while your guide will complete the picture with all the details of past happenings within these walls.
