LANGE REIS
Heather R
, sep. 2019

CASTLE AND HISTORY FANTASTIC

Neuschwanstein Castle is very interesting and very stunning. Viator has to stop advising the Skip-The-Line. There is no such option there. Tickets are set with a group number and assigned a set entrance time. There is no option to skip anything except waiting your groups time.

False advertising

Trip is advertised as approx 6 hours and skip the line. We were completely deceived, as the tour was 8.5 hours and we waited over an hour in line at the castle. Castle itself is stunning and worth a visit, but we were mislead and very upset about it. I understand circumstances can arise but we arrived at the castle at 10ish and our tour wasn’t booked for 1115. Was a lot of waiting around wasting our time. Our guide picked us up after the tour and rushed us to a train station in Austria (not telling us the ride was 2.5 hours back to Munich and no water would be available when it was 80 degrees outside). According to the tour description we should have been back in Munich around 1, but got in at 335. Completely lost those hours in Munich that we had plans for. The guide made a comment that he lived right around the castle, so it’s pretty clear he just didn’t feel like driving us back. Completely deceitful and upsetting, as we paid the extra money for a half day tour.

Lodi was an excellent guide. The scenery was beautiful as was the castle. The drive took longer than I expected, but the time provided was more than adequate.

A Bavarian highlight

Expedition brilliant in almost all aspects. Met promptly at station; driven comfortably to destination -however a 15 min walk to castle; then lots of walking up & downstairs [understandably]. Fitness def required. Then abruptly [a pity] delivered to train for return to Munich - & significantly no mention that there was no cafe on train- so grab a snack beforehand. Long day, much walking no refreshments.

Lahdo Tour

Lahdo and his son set up a great tour for us at the castle. He met us at the train station , led us to the train and stayed with us thruout the whole adveture. He and his son who drove the other van since we had a larger group gave us also a verbal tour of the area during the drive to and from the train stations and the castle. Put us back on the train in Austria for the ride home thru the ALPS it was great. Even asked the train engineer to hold the train another minute so all of our party who were older and couldn't walk very fast would be able to get on before it left. He went above and beyond in making sure we had a great time and I would recommend him A+++. The castle tour itself is good but I was hoping to look at more ruins and wish they would have let us go thru parts of the castle that hadn't been finished to what it really looked like

This was another great tour. They are able to get a lot of people through the doors at the same time. Lots of steps to walk up but definitely worth it!

Trip to Neuschwanstein via Van & Rail

Neuschwanstein Castle is a worthwhile trip from Munich, because you get some exposure to the Alps. The number of visitors to the castle is huge, which they deal with by separating people into smaller groups. This works pretty well, but the tour for the most part moves too quickly to have a thorough look around. Our tour guide picked us up in a regular van with three rows of seats (not a touring coach), and middle seatbelts were blocked by the seat covers. I was extremely unhappy with that. Everything otherwise was as expected. We arrived and were picked up on time. The driver also offered us a better option of leaving on the train from Austria rather than Fussen. This allowed us to get a really good look at the Alps. One irritating thing is that there was no child option on Viator, yet the operator obviously knew I was bringing a child and saved himself 16 euros on the castle ticket and possibly the train. I think it's crummy to make families with children effectively pay more than others.

What Line?

We were moved in a no so comfortable mini van, got the tickets to the castle but waited about 1.5 hours for our turn. We supposed that the line that we skipped was the one for the tickets (about 20 minutes) vs the tour line (1.5 hours). What is the difference? We supposed to be back in Munich around 2 PM, but we arrived after 4 PM.
