From early morning airport pick-up to late afternoon hotel drop off, this private tour went like clockwork. Very pleasing for my first time in Sri Lanka. I glad I am walking fit because there was a lot of it. The cave temples were at Dambulla were more extensive then I could have imagined. Monkeys running free at both locations. Don't forget to take local cash for the entry fees cards not accepted. As a bonus I also stopped by a Buddhist Stupa that was being maintained by university curators. They allowed me to walk around and told me where not to tread.

This was by far the best one-day tour I've been on. My guide was experienced, knowledgable and very nice. Unlike many others who take passengers to commercial places in the hope of receiving commission, he was open and super honest about every single detail of the trip, which I highly appreciated. The pick-up was on time and the round trip takes over 12 hours -- be prepared for a long day of driving and get good rest beforehand. Take snacks and water for the trip. The guide offered three different local places to choose from for lunch. This was a bonus as not all tour guides give you options. I highly recommend this tour -- it's definitely worth your money and time.

This was a great tour. Kumar picked us up at 6am and we set off on our 4 hour drive. He was informative where we needed him to be but happy to let us doze! The climb up the rock was tiring and scary but worth it when you got there and the cave/temple was also interesting. Not for the fainthearted!
Long day of driving on dangerous...

Long day of driving on dangerous roads. I recommend getting some sleep beforehand. It was our first day in Sri Lanka after arriving at 1.30am, getting to sleep at about 2.30am and being picked up at 6.00am. We had one car accident not our driver's fault and another incident on the way which delayed us by over an hour. The driver was good however on the way back in the dark was, in my opinion because of the delays, taking too many risks which made it even more difficult to relax on the drive. Be prepared for the extras. 1.Entry fee to Sigiriya was a costly surprise at US30 per head. They would only accept Ski Lankan Rupees OR US so make sure you take enough. Just very lucky we had the US with us as we had not changed quite enough of our currency to Rupees 2. The guide at the Fortress also cost 3,000 Rupees. He was good and worth it for the detailed explanation. The climb up the steps is quite challenging and we didn't bother going all the way to the top just for the view. The view from halfway up was enough to make it worthwhile. Mainly because of the unexpected delays we decided not to go in to the Cave Temples which turned out to be fortuitous as we didn't get back to hotel until past 8.00pm. Take water with you.
