This activity will end right where it started. Please insert your accommodation address in Naples (hotel, b&b, airbnb) in the "Special Requirements" section when booking, then call the local supplier the evening before your tour after 7PM to know your pick up time and if your pick up will be at your accommodation, nearby, or at our starting point.
Your guide will collect you from your hotel or train station to kick off this Mt Vesuvius and Pompeii day trip from Naples. Venture into the ancient Roman city of Pompeii on a half-hour coach ride and learn the history behind the area that was infamously covered by ash nearly 2000 years ago.

Follow your guide on a walking tour of this UNESCO World Heritage-listed site and learn about Europe’s largest archeological grounds. Stop at the Forum, Thermal Baths, Vetti’s House and the Lupanare brothel. Your guide will offer historical context and insight into local life here back in 79 AD. Once you’ve explored the grounds, savor an Italian pizza lunch with your group before enjoying time to wander the shops.

Afterward, travel by air-conditioned coach to Mt Vesuvius and journey on a moderate hike to the top of the active volcano with your guide. At the summit, some 3,900 feet (1,200 meters) above sea level, take in panoramic views of the Bay of Naples. Roam around the volcano's mammoth crater and keep an eye out for plumes of escaping steam. If you prefer to skip the hike, you'll enjoy free time while waiting for the group, but the trip to the top is definitely worth the effort.

After successfully climbing the top of Mt Vesuvius, relax with a ride back to your Naples hotel or back to the port in your comfortable coach.
Itinerary
Stop At:
Pompeii Archaeological Park
After pickup from your hotel or the Naples train station, take a 30-minute drive to Pompeii, an ancient Roman city that was entirely destroyed by the sudden eruption of Mt Vesuvius in 79 AD. The largest archaeological site in Europe, today Pompeii is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. When you arrive, your guide will pick up your group’s pre-ordered tickets and lead you on a 2-hour walking tour of the fascinating grounds. Witness the destruction first-hand as you visit Pompeii’s most famous sites, including the Forum, the Thermal Baths, Vetti's House and the Lupanare brothel, giving you a glimpse into daily life during the Pax Romana. Today you can see shapes of objects — even bodies — that were buried beneath the volcanic ash and pumice.
Duration: 2 hours
Admission Ticket Included
Stop At:
Vesuvius National Park
After your tour, enjoy a pizza lunch with your group followed by some free time to browse the shops. Then board the coach and drive 40 minutes to legendary Mt Vesuvius. Embark on a moderate hike up the volcano with your guide. When you reach the summit at 3,900 feet (1,200 meters), you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the picturesque Bay of Naples from east to west. Peer down into the crater and see plumes of steam issuing from the sleeping, but still active, volcano! There is a rest point where you can choose to wait for your group if you do not wish to climb all the way to the top, but the hike is worth the effort. After your Mt Vesuvius hike, relax on the drive back to Naples in the early evening.

A Complex Day Executed Perfectly

With the amount of bus transfers and long walks (not to mention hiking up to the top of Mt Vesuvius) this could easily have been a mess. However, the professionalism and kindness of our guides made all of these things a pleasure to experience. If you want a reliable day trip that will let you see the ruins of Pompei and an active volcano, this is the one for you.

Although I booked very short notice (1hour before) everything went so smooth. From pick up to all attractions until the drop off. Very nice tour and super reliable operator

Great to see the sights but a very crowded tour

The day was well organised by the tour company. The guide at Pompeii was knowledgeable but her audio system wasn’t the best! Our group was very large and it was difficult to keep up and look at the points which the guide was talking about. I think renting an audio guide and making our own way around would have been better and we could’ve gone at our own pace and avoided the crowds. The included lunch was very nice and there was a choice of pizza, salad or lasagne and a selection of drinks. The afternoon visit to Vesuvius was also very busy. It is a difficult walk to the top- it took us 40 minutes- and we didn’t have long to spend at the top before walking back down again. Tips: you need very sturdy footwear and lots of water to drink! There is a bar at the start of the Vesuvius climb and you can use the toilet there if you buy something (it’s the only toilets). I’m glad I did this trip as I wanted to see these sights, but I’d recommend booking a private or small group tour if possible.

The guide, Francesca, was very helpful and friendly. My tip is to stay in Sorrento if possible. Never been there but it can't be worse than Naples which is pretty grim.

We went on a really hot day so touring Pompeii and following explanations of the guide was hard work. We didn't get long to explore the museum area either. We had a lovely pizza lunch half way up Vesuvius and just the right amount of time to walk up and look around the summit. Transport all worked very smoothly.

This trip was fantastic. You could spend all day in Pompeii just looking around. I wish we had more time with that. The climb up Vesuvius gives you spectacular views.

Good tour in Pompeii and excellent views from the summit of Mt. Vesuvius. Air-conditioned minibuss för transit to and from the area was great in the hot weather, but we were expecting similarly comfortable transfer from Pompeii to Vesuvius and when returning down the mountain side and were instead seated in s full sized bus with 30 other tourists and poor air conditioning. Overall a good experience, still.

Great combined tour

Francesca was an excellent tour guide. Pick-up and drop-off was on time and convenient. Going around Pompei with a guide is so much better than going on your own as entry is part of the tour, and you get actual information on what you are seeing. The only drawback is that if you are a slow walker (and normally live at sea level) you may not make it to the top and back again in the allotted time (1 hour).

When Private tour was not private
PranabKumar_S
, Jul 2022
Requested a private tour but agreed to share with another couple. At the end, we had very little choice other than get into a coach with 40 other passengers. The last thing we really wanted. This was disappointing. On our return journey, we had to change from the coach to a minibus which did not drop us from where we were picked up in the morning. We were clearly let down. My wife was very upset. The whole experience was not very nice as this was a matter of principle.

Dear Sirs if you were looking for a private tour why did you buy a shared one? Our tour is very well advertised as a daily tour in group and you joined this activity on your own will, there is no way to be disappointed. Best regards

Pompeii and Mt Vesuvius

10:10 as a pick up time from the hotel was late in our opinion! Would have been way better to be earlier in Pompeii!! We would loved to have more time for the Mt Vesuvius! We felt rushed, not having enough time to enjoy the beauty of the volcano!! You can work on the organizing during the trip! It was a little bit crazy and unorganized! But in all I would recommend the trip

Good. Busy, full day.

Good. Busy, full day. I felt the tour gives a snapshot rather than an in-depth tour. Picked up dot on time by Rita, nice air con on the bus. Arrived at Pompeii which was packed and so hot! Handed over to the Pompeii guide, Erika and after a bit of a queue we were into Pompeii. Tour round but felt a little underwhelmed. I’m sure there was a lot more there to see. Only saw 1 “body” etc but still a decent tour. Then lunch, decent pizza. Then handed over to a different guide, Generro, dropped at the gate for the hike up Mt Vesuvius. Great views but again was a little underwhelmed. Back to the bus at the meeting time, then decanted off onto 4 separate mini busses to get everyone back to hotels. Arrived back at 6pm.

Our guide for Pompeii was...

Our guide for Pompeii was amazing and had so much knowledge. Then the hike to top of Mt Vesuvius was challenging, but the views were absolutely beautiful and so worth it. I would advise others to do these both separate days especially in July, Pompeii was very hot.

The whole experience. Pompeii is amazing. The guide was great to explain and lead a route around. Don't normally like guides but here was needed But the climb up Vesuvius is well worth it as well.

History Laid Before You in a Day
Qiana_W
, Jul 2022
The Pompeii guided tour was amazing. The tour guide Eliza was extremely knowledgeable, funny, and made so many cultural insights relatable. I liked Mt. Vesuvius hike, but it needs to be stressed more that it’s a real hike and the altitude one is climbing. However it’s a great hike and they allow enough time to do it in.

A great experience for those who like history and a great view
Andrew_L

The transportation guide for our group, Gennaro, was friendly, I formative, and made sure everyone was being taken care of. Our Pompeii guide (I believe her name is Enza, but I could be wrong) was the same. Would have loved to see more of the ruins but time constraints made that impossible. Our other guide, Elga, got the job done but didn't come across as friendly as the other two. The view from Vesuvius was great, but the downside of the time constraints made it to where my wife and I didn't have enough time to reach the top. It's decently steep walk, but you get a great view of the city and the Mediterranean.
